Bach wrote over 200 cantatas in his life, most during his first five years as the Thomaskantor in Leipzig. These cantatas were usually made for Sunday church services. Like cantata No. 97, many were based on hymn tunes that the people in Leipzig already knew.

Mass in B minor, BWV 232 (Dona nobis pacem)

Malaysia Bach Festival Singers & Orchestra
Bach reuses many of his music in his Christmas Oratorio as well as his Mass in B minor. For example, the "Dona nobis pacem" (Grant us peace) from Mass in B minor was adapted from the opening chorus of "Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir" (We thank you, Lord, we thank you).

Ich habe genug, BWV 82a (Schlummert ein)

Chew Shi Yun, Soprano; Malaysia Bach Festival Orchestra
Bach wrote Cantata No. 82, Ich habe genug in 1727 while he was in Leipzig. He first wrote it for a bass singer and orchestra. Later, he made a version of the aria "Schlummert ein, ihr matten Augen" (Sleep, you tired eyes) for his wife, Anna Magdalena, who was a soprano. He included it in a special notebook he gave her as a gift!
